Vatican Council II would contradict the Syllabus of Errors for the Vatican Curia, SSPX, SBC and sedevacantists.Since for them LG 16 refers to objective cases

George:
It is at the top of the list !!!!! and the list is long of the issues which must be addressed.
As an example the following was ALL condemned:
III. INDIFFERENTISM, LATITUDINARIANISM / Syllabus of Errors +++ Pope Pius IX
Condemned......NEVER to be undone

"15. Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true. -- Allocution "Maxima quidem," June 9, 1862; Damnatio "Multiplices inter," June 10, 1851.

Lionel:
So Vatican Council II can be interpreted as not affirming this.Since Ad Gentes 7 and Lumen Gentium 14 say all need faith and baptism for salvation.

16. Man may, in the observance of any religion whatever, find the way of eternal salvation, and arrive at eternal salvation. -- Encyclical "Qui pluribus," Nov. 9, 1846.
Lionel:
Vatican Council II does not affirm this for me.AG 7 and LG 14 contradicts it.

17. Good hope at least is to be entertained of the eternal salvation of all those who are not at all in the true Church of Christ. -- Encyclical "Quanto conficiamur," Aug. 10, 1863, etc.

Vatican Council II contradicts this with AG 7 which says all need faith and baptism.
AG 7 is not contradicted by LG 16, if LG 16 is considered invisible, and not objective.
AG 7 is contradicted if LG 16 is considered visible in the flesh in 2015, and objective. It then becomes an exception to extra ecclesiam nulla salus. This is how most Catholics interpret LG 16 and Vatican Council II. The fault is not with the Council.

 18. Protestantism is nothing more than another form of the same true Christian religion, in which form it is given
to please God equally as in the Catholic Church. -- Encyclical "Noscitis," Dec. 8, 1849"

Lionel:
Ad Gentes 7 says all need the baptism of water and Catholic Faith. Catholic Faith includes the Sacraments and the faith and moral teachings of the Church. They help a Catholic, avoid mortal sin and preserve Sanctifying Grace. Protestants do not have Catholic Faith.

Vatican Council II for me does not contradict the Syllabus of Errors. It would contradict the Syllabus of Errors for the Vatican Curia, the SSPX, SBC and sedevacantists.Since for them LG 16 refers to objective cases. So it is an exception to EENS.-Lionel Andrades
