Similar to Dominus Iesus and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Cardinal Ratzinger used an irrational inference in Ut Unum Sin

When Pope John Paul II issued Ut Unum Sint on Ecumenism (1995) Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.For him Pope Pius XII was correct and Fr.Leonard Feeney was wrong.There was known salvation outside the Church. Those saved in invincible ignorance and the baptism of desire were saved without the baptism of water.These theoretical cases for us ,were known exceptions to the interpretation of Fr.Leonard Feeney. In other words, like the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 Cardinal Ratzinger assumed that these cases were visible in the flesh, personally known to be exceptions to all needing the baptism of water in the present times.If they were not known how could they be exceptions? So they had to be known on earth!
With this irrationality of being able to see the dead; the visible dead theory, he reviewed and approved the document Ut Unum Sint.
On commitment to Ecumenism

10. In the present situation of the lack of unity among Christians and of the confident quest for full communion, the Catholic faithful are conscious of being deeply challenged by the Lord of the Church. The Second Vatican Council strengthened their commitment with a clear ecclesiological vision, open to all the ecclesial values present among other Christians.
In the following passages he will change Church ecclesiology with the irrationality of the visible- dead being explicit exceptions to traditional salvation and ecclesiology.
 The Catholic faithful face the ecumenical question in a spirit of faith.
The Council states that the Church of Christ "subsists in the Catholic Church, which is governed by the Successor of Peter and by the Bishops in communion with him", and at the same time acknowledges that "many elements of sanctification and of truth can be found outside her visible structure. These elements, however, as gifts properly belonging to the Church of Christ, possess an inner dynamism towards Catholic unity".
Note : Lumen Gentium 8 says 'This Church constituted and organized in the world as a society, subsists in the Catholic Church' and  'many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside of its visible structure '. Please read LG 8 again.It nowhere says that these elements of sanctification and of truth are exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. It does not state that we know  ,or can know of, persons saved as such and saved without Catholic Faith.
The text does not say. Yet it is inferred by Ut Unum Sint that there are exceptions to extra ecclesiam nulla salus.So the dogma has been changed. Ecclesiology has been changed.Visible exceptions!?
"It follows that these separated Churches and Communities, though we believe that they suffer from defects, have by no means been deprived of significance and value in the mystery of salvation. For the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic Church". 
Lumen Gentium 8 then says that a member of the separated Church and Communities could be saved. So there is salvation for Orthodox Christians and Protestants.This is a possibility.
A possibility, a hypothetical case for us is not a problem. Since a hypothetical case is not an explicit exception to all needing 'faith and baptism' for salvation. It does not contradict the 'rigorist interpretation' of Fr.Leonard Feeney.LG 8 is not opposed  to the traditional interpretation of the dogma which affirmed exclusive ecclesiology.
So if there are Protestants and Evangelicals saved 'from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic Church' it would not be known to us. They are invisible cases.So we can accept this possibility and also affirm 'the rigorist interpretation' of the dogma. They are compatible.However for Cardinal Ratzinger it would not be compatible. Since for him these are visible and known cases. They are explicit and objective in his mind. This is how he pictures them. So they would be exceptions to the interpretation of Fr.Leonard Feeney.Ecclesiology has changed for him! There is a new understanding of ecumenism and salvation.
11.Indeed, the elements of sanctification and truth present in the other Christian Communities, in a degree which varies from one to the other, constitute the objective basis of the communion, albeit imperfect, which exists between them and the Catholic Church. 
  'constitute the objective basis of the communion'. They are possibilities! How can they be objective basis for communion?
For Cardinal Ratzinger they are objective.He assumes these persons saved in imperfect communion with the Church are objectively visible. So they become objective exceptions to the interpretation of the dogma according to Fr.Leonard Feeney.How can the dead now in Heaven be objective exceptions to Fr.Leonard Feeney? He uses an irrationality and so cannot say that the dogma has not been contradicted and Protestants and Orthodox Christians need to convert into the Catholic Church to avoid Hell.
To the extent that these elements are found in other Christian Communities, the one Church of Christ is effectively present in them.
How can we say that saving-elements are found in other Christian Communities and so they do not have to convert ?. Saving -elements in other communities would only be known to God.
 For this reason the Second Vatican Council speaks of a certain, though imperfect communion.
Imperfect communion-yes. However it is wrong to presume that this imperfect communion would be known to us in personal cases ,who do not need to convert into the would be irrational to infer that we know who is  saved 'outside the Church'.We do not know anyone in the present times who is saved outside the Catholic Church in a formal and objective sense. There would be some one saved outside the church if those saved in invincible ignorance and the baptism of desire were objectively seen and known to us.Cardinal Ratzinger infers they are.
Similar to Dominus Iesus and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Cardinal Ratzinger has accepted the irrationality of the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 and applied it in Church documents during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II.In this way he has changed the traditional  teachings on ecumenism, salvation, Social Reign of Jesus Christ over all political systems, Christology and ecclesiology.
This was also a break with Pope Paul VI in 1964.

The Kindness of a Shepherd

IMG_0763-smallFor Peter and Theresa Martin’s second son, life has not always been easy. Louis (pronounced loo-ee) was born with a rare disease (from a genetic mutation) that left his doctors confused and parents helpless for many years. For the first five years of his life, he suffered tremendously. He was on the couch surviving more than he was playing with his brothers and friends. Yet, instead of bitterness, his heart deepened in love and compassion through it all.
One Good Friday, his mother recalls, when he was four years old, he had to stay behind with his mother when his father and brothers went to the 7 Church Walk in their town. His skin was pale and eyes sunken, and his mother remembers thinking how heartbreaking it all was. “We had no answers and he just kept getting worse. I looked at his frail, ghostly figure and just cried. I then told him he could watch whatever video he wanted, because he was sick and I just wanted him to feel better! And do you know what this sweet 4 year old boy said to me?” she told us, “He said, ‘mama, I want to watch a video about Jesus, because he died today and he was hurting more than me.’ Yes, I cried again. What an amazing child!”
His parents finally received a correct diagnosis for Louis and when he began nightly injections of the proper medicine, his condition improved almost miraculously. He began to grow again; he could finally sleep through the night without the cranial pressure and nighttime vomiting; he could walk without pain; he could thrive! It was an answer to the family’s prayers. Yet, even as his physical condition improved his heart remained deeply passionate. His parents shared how he has his own way of doing things and many don’t understand his personality, but that doesn’t seem to bother him. Even though he still cries when remembering how he suffered, his view on life is hopeful and full of laughter and mischief. His love for Jesus continues to grow as well.
December 2013It was a little over a year ago on August 3, 2013 at the Shrine, that Louis’ older brother Gregory received his 1st Communion, along with three other children, from His Eminence Cardinal Burke. Louis sat with his family during the Mass and yet, afterwards he wouldn’t say a word. Finally, his parents discovered that he was heart broken that he couldn’t receive Jesus in the Eucharist like his brother. What happened next sent ripples of unexpected love through Louis’ family and through out the world. Cardinal Burke came to greet the families of the first communicants after Mass. He had a little gift for each one. When he approached the Martins, he gave Gregory his gift, but then saw Louis crying. There are some who when seeing a child crying don’t think much of it; children do cry for any number of reasons. Yet, Cardinal Burke didn’t just smile at the sad child, he asked what was wrong. Louis’ mother explained to His Eminence how he was sad that he did not get to receive his 1st Communion as well. Cardinal Burke looked compassionately at Louis. And this young boy, instead of turning away, leaned into the cardinal, grabbing his robes, and wept. His Eminence embraced him warmly and said, “don’t worry! Your first Communion will come soon enough!” Louis’ mother said he doesn’t normally open up to strangers, but there was something so full of love and tenderness in Cardinal Burke that she was not entirely surprised to see Louis who is so compassionate himself respond to such kindness of a true Shepherd of the Church.
The moment happened to be captured by Louis’ grandmother and the image once online went viral in days. It could be found on many websites all around the world in many languages and still continues to be used. It is a photo that cuts through the political arguments, impersonal theories and bickering “sides” and reveals the true heart of Christ in His Church. It was a moment the Martins said they would never forget.
small-IMG_0809The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was honored to be a part of this beautiful moment and now we saw it come to fulfillment. On December 12, 2014, on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe herself, young Louis Martin received his first Holy Communion at the hands of His Eminence, Cardinal Burke, with his family all in attendance.
May our hearts be emboldened to desire Christ with such love and to reach out to encourage one another in love. As Cardinal Burke was, may we also be vehicles of the compassion of our Lady as she brings all to her Son. As Our Lady of Guadalupe told us, “I will show Him, I will exalt Him and make Him manifest. I will give Him to the people in all my personal love, in my compassion, in my help, in my protection: because I am truly your merciful Mother … Here I will hear their weeping, their complaints and heal all their sorrows, hardships and sufferings.”

There are no exceptions this Christmas.We do not know any one saved in invincible ignorance or the baptism of desire. We cannot know.This would only be known to God-that's if there ever was such a case.Being saved in invincible ignorance or 'seeds of the Word' or 'good and holy things in other religions' has nothing to do with the infallible teaching. Since these cases are invisible for us, they cannot be exceptions.Hypothetical cases cannot be defacto exceptions to the dogma. Zero cases of something cannot be exceptions says an American apologist.So it is important that non Catholics learn about The Faith. Catholics too must better understand it.
