Archbishop Gerhard Muller says that the SSPX needs to distinguish the true teaching of the Second Vatican Council: but he will not correct Reuters.

Tom Heneghan
Reuters keeps repeating that Vatican Council II has changed the Church's teachings on other religions.(1) Is this is the true teaching of the Second Vatican Council II which the SSPX must accept?

Does the SSPX have to accept the Reuters theological understanding of Vatican Council II?

Reuters has made an objective error. It is a factual mistake, which is influencing their theology. They have used an irrational premise and so have a non traditional interpretation of Vatican Council II.

When Archbishop Muller says that the SSPX needs to distinguish the true teaching of the Second Vatican Council II he is not implying that the Reuters version is the correct one?

Unfortunately neither has the SSPX issued a clarification over the Reuters report which was picked up by many newspapers.

The clarification could have simply said that 'implicit salvation mentioned in Vatican Council II is not explicit for us. So no where does Vatican Council II contradict the traditional interpretation of the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. It is a fact that we cannot see the dead. So if Reuters implies that we can see the deceased then it is a factual mistake.'

A priest of the SSPX has issued a clarification posted on CNS which said that the SSPX is not anti-Semitic and that their legal counsel has informed them, that some of the statements of Cardinal Kurt Koch are defamation. It said supernatural charity urges them to say that non Catholics need to convert into the Church.

This clarification completely ignored the point of Vatican Council II changing the Church's teachings on other religions.Since the SSPX also, in spite of the statement in its last General Chapter, assumes there is known salvation outside the church and that the deceased are visible to us. So how could they correct Reuters?

He said: “The SSPX need to distinguish between the true teaching of the Second Vatican Council and specific abuses that occurred after the Council, but which are not founded in the Council’s documents.”
