VATICAN-SSPX NEED TO CALL TIME OUT: ERROR IN LIGHT OF THE WORLD DIRECTLY LINKED TO DIFFERENCES IN ECUMENISM, INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE, RELIGIOUS LIBERTY WHICH MSGR.NICOLA BUX MENTIONED

In an Open Letter to the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) Mgsr. Nicola Bux, Consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Pope  appealed to the SSPX to accept Vatican Council II and sort out the differences on ecumenism, inter religious dialogue and religious liberty later.

However we can now see that the difference over Catholic doctrine on other religions, is clearly seen in an error in the book Light of the World.Once this error is identified and resolved there are no differences on ecumenism, inter religious dialogue, religious liberty, the salvation dogma and Vatican Council between the Vatican and the SSPX.

The dissent is not there just in priests, bishops and cardinals with a new interpretation of the Council but it can be traced to one single objective error made by the pope. Once this is clarified the Vatican and the SSPX will have unity and will hold to the same doctrine.

In the book Light of the World (Ignatius), conversations with Peter Seewald the Holy Father says Christ is the only Saviou and there is only one channel of salvation (1).The statement on  there being only one channel of salvation and all who are saved are saved through Jesus Christ is true as a general concept. As mentioned in the previous blog post the Holy Father however, means this as an exception to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus and to Vatican Council II (AG 7) which says all need Catholic Faith and the baptism of water for salvation.
Pope Benedict assumes that all those persons saved in invincible ignorance and with a good conscience (LG 16) etc are known to us. So they could be explicit exceptions to AG 7, Vatican Council II and Cantate Domino, Council of Florence. They cannot be known exceptions we know. They cannot be explicit exceptions  since these cases are known only to God.

So the pope’s one channel of salvation is flawed.

The one way of salvation is Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church His Mystical Body and if there are non Catholics saved in invincible ignorance etc it would be known only to God.For centuries the one channel of salvation was Catholic Faith and the baptism of water for all with no exception. It was in the 1940’s that Cardinal Richard Cushing, Archbishop of Boston and the Jesuits there assumed that those saved in invincible ignorance etc were explicit exceptions to the dogma and to the literal interpretation of Fr. Leonard Feeney.

The Letter of the Holy Office does state that Fr. Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy. It mentions disobedience. The Church lifted the excommunication without him having to recant.Like Fr. Leonard Feeney both Vatican Councils, I and II, clearly teach that formal membership in the Catholic Church is necessary for salvation.(2)

If there is no text in Vatican Council II which contradicts AG 7 we are back to the literal interpretation of extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

The pope is also misinterpreting Lumen Gentium 16.The Vatican negotiators in the Vatican-SSPX talks made the same error, it can be seen, in their position papers on the International Theological Commission website.LG 16 does not contradict AG 7.-Lionel Andrades

The Vatican Councils of the Catholic Church have clearly taught that formal membership in the Catholic Church IS absolutely necessary for salvation.
